Fraud: Court Issues Warrant to Arrest Lagos Speaker

A Federal High Court Lagos presided over by Justice James Tsoho last Friday issued a bench warrant for the arrest ofAdeyemi Ikuforiji, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly and Oyebode Alade Atoyebi,  his personal assistant.

Accident Victim Claims N156m against Guinness

Mrs Olaitan Lawal (claimant), an accident victim who was knocked down on April 16, 2010 by Guinness Nigeria Plc Nissan Pick-Up Van around Shonibare Estate Maryland, Lagos, has instituted an action before Ikeja High Court, Lagos, claiming sum of N155, 534,300 million as damages against Guinness Nigeria Plc (1st claimant) for negligence of the vehicle driver, an employee of the company.

Senator Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, former deputy governor of Lagos State, under Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration has instituted an action before an Ikeja High Court against the governor of Lagos State, the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, seeking the payment of her allowances and other fringe benefits due to her as ex-deputy governor.

Mr. Akindele Joseph Apara, former employee of a private company who claimed that he took ill after he allegedly and unknowingly drank contaminated Smirnoff Ice drink, a product of Guinness Nigeria Plc, has instituted an action before an Ikeja High Court, Lagos, claiming damages against Guinness Nigeria Plc for negligence and lack of duty of care in the production of Smirnoff.

The grievances over the revocation of banking licences and nationalisation of Afribank Nigeria Plc, Bank PHB Plc and Spring Bank Plc by the federal government and the renaming of same as Mainstreet Bank Limited, Keystone Bank Limited and Enterprise Bank Limited, respectively, may have assumed a new dimension as Boniface Okezie and three others representing themselves and other aggrieved investors/shareholders of these banks have filed an action before a Federal High Court, Lagos, challenging the action of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and others in the deal.

Oceanic Bank International Plc is seeking a court order to liquidate Heyden Petroleum Limited for alleged insolvency and inability to pay over N1 billion owed the bank.

In an emotional reaction to her victory at the Federal High Court, Lagos last Friday, Professor Ndi Okereke-Onyiuke told BusinessWorld in an exclusive  interview that she does not care about the N500 million which the court awarded her, saying that she does not care about the money, but the victory which means much to her reputation. With this judgement, “I am still the director general of the Nigerian Stock Exchange”, she said.

JUSTICE Adesuyi Olateru-Olagbegi of the Lagos High Court Igbosere has further adjourned the matter between Balogun Okolo Chieftaincy family of Lagos State and Nigerian Breweries Plc to May 9, 2011 for report of settlement.
