MR. Jean Yves Gourdol, programme coordinator of the European Union (EU) funded Support to Reforming Institutions Programme (SRIP), has justified the support to the Anti-Corruption and Transparency monitoring Unit (ACTU) established by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to identify corrupt practices in its ministries, agencies and departments (MDAs).

ACTU, a Unit of the ICPC is designed to serve as anti-corruption desks in the various MDAs with a view to identifying corrupt practices at its point of entry.
Gourdol stated that the support to anti-graft agencies have become imperative since corruption degrades institutions and undermines the quality of life of the citizenry. He outlined benefits of ACTU to include removing the use of fire brigade approach to fighting corruption and mainstreaming of due process in the MDAs as well as eradicating the feeling of fatalism among Nigerians that corruption cannot be reduced.
According to him, support to ACTU is critical as ACTU as an agent of transparency in government spending and public procurement.  However, the SRIP Programme Coordinator expressed the hope that if ACTU is able to function properly as designed, cases of corruption in the MDAs will be identified and nipped in the bud.
Gourdol further explained that the EU project was established to assist states committed to change through the support of reforms aimed at more efficient and transparent budget implementation.
In doing this, he added that SRIP is geared towards improving public service delivery with a view to creating a conducive business climate and encouraging private productive investment.
