FOR the past three weeks we have dealt with some issues concerning discipline as one of the main pillars of an enterprise, but it should be noted that as much as discipline is multi-dimensional so also are the impediments. No matter how desirous and focused you may be, if you allow these impediments to weigh you down you are bound to end up like Lot’s wife who continuously looked back into the burning city of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The only reward she got is becoming stagnant and turning into a pole of salt. The fear of the unknown may not allow you to move out of your ‘‘Comfort zone’’ even if you move out of the ‘‘Comfort zone’’ you will still carry the baggage of doubt along with you and there will still be the temptation for you not to be thorough i.e. disciplined in turning your desire into reality.
Overcoming Impediments
To overcome the impediment of station and situation that was explained last week and reap the full benefits of being disciplined you must do the following:
• Have confidence in yourself and be able to move forward even when adversaries seem to be overwhelming, let the rewards that will come with the achievement of set goals be your motivation to excel.
• Live within your limit or else you will lose your focus, while it is good to be ambitious, it is also very important to match resources with capacity and capability before drawing up expectations.
• Take a step at a time, do not bite more than you can chew, take the stages of development one at a time and learn as you go on, the ability to decipher the time to change gear is a huge asset in the attainment of success
• Have pride but do not be proud; you will need to believe in yourself and your enterprise without being brash or abrasive. It is your vision, so you will need to be proud of the journey you about to embark on.
• Use failure as lesson and stepping stone; once you start learning from your mistake are and that of others you will be able to put strategies that will make your vision to be sustainable and enduring into place
• See yourself as the first competitor you have, try as much as possible to always surpass your last success
• Dwell not on the hardness of a task; it is a journey, once you endure it, the benefits will be yours in due course
• Focus on the price to be won then the task at hand will not be daunting
• Do not be afraid to ask for assistance from those who have tread the path before you, their experience will serve as guiding light to you
• Do the best that is required then you can be rest assured that the seed you sow today will germinate sooner than later.
• Admit failures and seek for help when necessary, it does not mean that you are weak when you admit failure the only problem is turning failure into a habit
• Appreciate other’s contribution, it is the only way you will earn their respect
All of the above nuggets are not exclusive but they are meant to be guiding the paths of those that seek to gain laurels at the end of this exhausting race.
