THE newly elected officers of the Institute of Software Practitioners of Nigeria (Ispon), led by Prof Chris Uwaje, the president, recently visited the corporate head office of Computer Warehouse Group (CWG). The visit was the first since being sworn in as executives of the institute.
Their mission is to bring the institute back to life and according to Uwaje, “lift software in Nigeria from ground zero.” He said Ispon is here to stay and the focus of this new leadership is to work in partnership with organizations like Computer Warehouse to actualize these objectives. Meeting with the executives were Austin Okere, group chief executive officer, Computer Warehouse, James Agada, managing director, ExpertEdge Software, a subsidiary of CWG and Simon Agi, general manager, operations for CWG. These executives of both Ispon and CWG agreed that the success story of the National Communications Commission (NCC) led by Engineer Ernest Ndukwe could be used as a bench mark for positioning the country in terms of software.
Uwaje presented to Okere the ‘prayer’ of the institute in which the goals and objectives of the institute were outlined. He also pointed out that Okere stood within the ICT world and the country as a whole as a model of growth and achievement worthy of emulation.
Responding, Okere welcomed the vision of Ispon in terms of propagating the software initiative in Nigeria but advised on the need of taking one step at a time in terms of achieving the set objectives. The e-payment issue, according to Okere, could be one area in which this set of executives could focus on and try to achieve within their tenure.
Computer Warehouse Group, through its software division, ExpertEdge Software, is a leading software solutions company that partners with global brands like Infosys from India to provide software solutions to banks, oil companies, telcos and a number of other corporate organizations within the West African region.
